Aloha!

Aloha, and welcome to my blog! I am a mom to four wonderful and special kids. I like to say we are a “triple A” family, because I have children with Asperger’s, Autism and ADHD.  Although I’ve had some memorable encounters with my Asperger’s and ADHD children, it is my youngest son, Ryan’s (age 4) struggle with autism that has truly touched my heart. Ryan has almost every food allergy there is, so even feeding him is a special challenge. We have been fortunate to find a doctor who specializes in treating kids with autism and that has made big difference.

Just last week we started Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)—wow, is that expensive!--and have been doing some biomedical treatments (vitamins and supplements). Although I am so disorganized I always feel like it’s dumb luck things get done at all, I am now trying to record data in an effort to see what is working for Ryan.

I decided to write a blog to record our journey. I want the same thing for Ryan that I want for all my children—to live a fulfilling and independent life.  Although his autism is severe, I will do everything I can to ensure Ryan enjoys the best life possible.

Living in Hawaii is a dream come true, but doesn’t mute the challenges of autism. But, you can’t keep a good mom down, and I know one day the things that have me filling my wine glass will be a distant memory!
With Much Aloha!! Janet
